Animatus (2004 - 2015)
Animatus is a representative series by Lee Hyungkoo. The artist uses the techniques of paleontologists to create the skeletons of the familiar cartoon characters from American Walt Disney and Warner Brothers. Based on anatomical analysis and research, as well as the artist’s quirky imagination, the work evokes an illusion as if viewing a character's fossil. In 2008, his works were showcased at the Natural History Museum in Basel, Switzerland, alongside real fossils of animals.
