KANG Ik-Joong

Born in 1960 in Cheongju, based in New York

Representative artist of the Korean Pavilion at the 47th Venice Biennale in 1997 (awarded the Special Merize prize)

Samramansang (1984 - 2014)

Samramansang by Kang Ik-Joong, a work made up of 3x3 inch stretched canvas paintings, is interpreted as all things and phenomena of the universe. It represents the immense diversity of contemporary art and the vast range of artistic expression of its practitioners. A Bodhisattvas, one who sees all the connected worlds, projects the painting onto its chrome-plated surface, expanding the meaning of the extended world.
